Was there not a NICE example of a NA Miata (or even a UDSM one?) available to Douggo?
(nice color match on the fender, too)

Is...the air intake next to the exhaust headers?

“These long tube headers are letting too much heat into the engine bay... I know, let’s pull the hot air back into the engine!”

Anybody who does a bolt on swap of an intake to a Miata is an idiot. The stock intake already ducts cool air in, not from the header. The ONLY intake worthwhile is the windshield cowl one from FM (Randall Cowl intake). Plus they are CARB approved which is neat. But I do not want to spend $269 and be required to delete my shock tower brace to fit it (on my NB).

That and custom building an entire intake duct to one of the turn signal sockets but that costs even more money to do right.

Mine has an intake on it, but I also have an insulated header blanket/shield.

Have you noticed any heat soak on longer drives? Everything I have read on forums and talked to people at autox events, they have recommended against messing with the intake just because the OEM one is pretty decent. I really like the header blanket I have, really made a difference in temperatures for sure.

Not really, but it doesn’t make any power at speed to begin with so I don’t really know. The previous owner put it on. It is cast aluminum tho, so I should probably just get a water sprayer to help it cool at AutoX.

In fairness, how many viewers of his would be incensed that he didn’t pick
their
Miata
? I thought it was neat seeing the Eunos Roadster version, though I’d have liked one closer to stock. Especially the awful glaring passenger side door, which seemed a different color than the entire rest of the car. Why couldn’t he have shot from the left side of the car?!
